What We Do

Research, documentation, and community-based heritage work

Our Work

CHRDI-Pakistan works at the intersection of cultural research, heritage documentation, community knowledge, traditional craftsmanship, and digital technologies. Our work is research-based, field-oriented, and community-centered.

01

Heritage Research

We conduct research on historic places, cultural traditions, communities, crafts, architecture, languages, folk practices, and other forms of cultural heritage.

02

Documentation

We document heritage through field surveys, photography, videography, interviews, oral histories, drawings, mapping, archival research, and written records.

03

Traditional Crafts

We document traditional crafts and the knowledge of master artisans, including their techniques, tools, materials, training systems, and creative processes.

04

Oral History

We record the memories, experiences, stories, and knowledge of communities, craftsmen, artists, elders, and tradition bearers.

05

Digital Heritage

We use digital technologies to organize, preserve, and present cultural information through digital archives, databases, maps, photographs, videos, and online exhibitions.

06

Community Participation

We believe that communities are the primary custodians of their living heritage. Our work therefore emphasizes participation, consultation, and recognition of local knowledge.

07

Capacity Building

We encourage students, young researchers, artisans, cultural practitioners, and community members to develop skills in heritage research and documentation.
